Mequinenza · Bajo Cinca

Credits and licences

The Poble Vell (the old village) of Mequinenza was demolished from 1970 onwards to make way for the Riba-roja reservoir. This 3D reconstruction is a work in progress: each house’s record says what is known about it and where that comes from (documented, inferred or hypothetical).

Photographs

The houses are worked out from old photographs: the photographic collection of Mequinenza Town Council, the ‘Recuerdos de papel’ books and others. They are used as a reference for the reconstruction and are not published on this website.

Those cited in the records are listed in Sources, by their identifier and collection, with no image or caption until there is permission to publish them.

The model

  • Houses, streets, squares, steps, Lo Muro, the church and Ca la Vila. Models by the Poble Vell de Mequinenza 3D project. For now they are provisional shapes, refined area by area using the photos.
  • ‘Weathered’ textures. Generated with artificial intelligence from photos of the period, as a visual finish. They are not evidence of anything.
  • Textures for the viewer’s ‘Clean’ look. From the free Poly Haven library (CC0), adjusted by the project.
  • The castle. It will not appear in the images on this website until the author of its model gives permission.

Every image on this website is labelled with its type (‘3D reconstruction · 1965’, ‘Working image · 3D model’, ‘Our own map’) and says whether the colour is interpretive or the textures are AI-generated. For how it is all done, see How it was made.
